The Equal Opportunity Advisory Board was created to review and recommend to the City Commission the
adoption of amendments/revisions to the City's affirmative action plan. The board also reviews employment
policies and practices of the City and makes recommendations to the Department of Employee Relations.
Seven (7) appointments are required at this time:
• Chair Sanchez has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Rebeca Alvarez -Mena, incumbent, whose term expired July 12, 2007, has exceeded
the number of allowed absences (8 absences in 2007), and would require a 4/5ths
waiver of attendance.*
2. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Sam Mason).
• Vice Chair Spence -Jones has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Anthony Cutler, incumbent, whose term expires March 12, 2009, has exceeded the
number of allowed absences (4 in 2008), and would require a 4/5ths waiver of
attendance.
• Commissioner Gonzalez has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Miriam Urra, incumbent, whose term expires July 9, 2009, has exceeded the number
of allowed absences (5 in 2008), and would require a 4/5ths waiver of attendance;
further, as she has served since 2/8/01, she would require a 5/5ths term waiver by the
City Commission.
2. Vacancy (Miriam Urra appointed to a separate seat).
• Commissioner Sarnoff has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Luis Meurice, incumbent, whose term expires March 12, 2009, has exceeded the
number of allowed absences (5 in 2008), and would require a 4/5ths waiver of
attendance.
2. Vacancy (seat formerly held by Yvonne McDonald).
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy of this
memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the March 12, 2009
Commission agenda. *This matter was deferred from the June 14, 2007, September 11, 2007, October
11, 2007, November 9, 2007, January 10, 2008, February 14, 2008, March 13, 2008, April 10, 2008,
July 10, 2008, September 11, 2008, October 16, 2008, November 13, 2008, December 11, 2008, January
15, 2009 and February 12, 2009 Commission meetings.
