A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION CLASSIFYING ONE (1) 1999
FORD F-250 TRUCK UNIT NUMBER 99102, VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
1FTRF27W7XNB47313, AS CATEGORY "A" SURPLUS STOCK, AND DONATING
SAID TRUCK TO THE HAITIAN AMERICAN CITIZENSHIP AND VOTER
EDUCATION CENTER INC., A 501(C)(3) NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, UPON
THE EXECUTION OF THE APPROPRIATE RELEASE. DOCUMENTS.
WHEREAS, the Department of General Services Administration decommissioned one (1) 1999
Ford F-250 Truck Unit No. 99102, Vehicle Identification Number ("VIN") 1FTRF27W7XNB47313; and
WHEREAS, the Chief Procurement Officer has declared the truck as surplus; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the Section 18-82 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, a
surplus declared as Category "A" stock shall be available for disposition as the City of Miami's ("City's")
contribution or the City's commitment in support of a particular public purpose, which may include
community, civic or social service programs as may be authorized by the City Commission; and
WHEREAS, not-for-profit organizations which provide a public purpose shall be offered first
consideration as recipients for the disposition of Category "A" surplus stock; and
WHEREAS, the Haitian American Citizenship and Voter Education Center, Inc., a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization is an exclusively charitable, scientific, literary and educational organization with
goals to serve Haitians and to educate the need and value of becoming United States citizens,
recognize that voting is an unalienable constitutional right guaranteed to all citizens, and to assist and
prepare the required citizenship applications on behalf of applicants; and
WHEREAS, said organization working in the Haitian community is confronted with the pain and
suffering being endured by families not only in the United States, but in Haiti, due to the devastation in
August and September, 2008 caused by four consecutive storms- Tropical Storm Fay, Hurricane
Gustav, Tropical Storm Hanna, and Hurricane Ike; and
WHEREAS, said storms destroyed the already fragile infrastructure of the Caribbean nation of
Haiti; and
WHEREAS, Haiti is a nation of about 9 million people who are suffering, an estimated 300,000
children have been affected, and approximately 500 to 600 people have died due to the storms; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission via this resolution wishes to donate said truck to the Haitian
American Citizenship and Voter Education Center, Inc., upon the execution of the appropriate release
documents, and in turn, said organization will donate the truck to Port Au Prince, Haiti, to assist with
the recovery efforts from the storms;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,

LORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. One (1) 1999 Ford F-250 Truck Unit Number 99102, VIN 1 FTRF27W7XNB47313, is
classified as Category "A" surplus stock.
Section 3. The truck as previously described, is donated to the Haitian American Citizenship and
Voter Education Center, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, upon the execution of the appropriate
release documents.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}

Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
