A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT, IN THE AMOUNT OF
$40,000, FROM MIAMI DADE COLLEGE FOUNDATION, INC., CONSISTING OF A
GRANT AWARDED BY MICROSOFT'S UNLIMITED POTENTIAL -COMMUNITY
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS PROGRAM, TO PROVIDE SERVICES FOR THE "ELEVATE
MIAMI -UNLIMITED POTENTIAL" INITIATIVE; FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE AGREEMENT FOR SERVICES, IN SUBSTANTIALLY
THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS TO IMPLEMENT
THE ACCEPTANCE OF SAID GRANT AWARD.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $40,000, from
Miami Dade College Foundation, Inc.("MDC"), for the funding of the "Elevate Miami -Unlimited
Potential" Initiative ("Elevate Miami") to offer computer literacy trainings in the City's community
learning centers as part of Elevate Miami; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to better prepare Miamians to participate and compete in the new
digital society and digital economy by assisting them in becoming more comfortable with and
adaptable to new technologies; and
WHEREAS, the City launched and maintains Elevate Miami, a comprehensive and wide-ranging
"digital inclusion" initiative targeting youth, low-income families, minorities, seniors and all residents
facing barriers to digital inclusion; and
WHEREAS, Elevate Miami currently provides citizens with access to technology through the
eParks initiative and training in computer usage fundamentals through the eSeniors initiative, as well
as affordable technology packages, including Internet access, hardware, software, financing, and
related components; and
WHEREAS, Elevate Miami is comprised of a cooperative effort between the City, MDC and
Microsoft; and
WHEREAS, the goals of Elevate Miami are to generate enthusiasm for technology, increase basic
computer literacy and Internet skills of Miami's workforce, seniors, and small businesses, and to
increase access to technology and connectivity in an effort to build a computer literate workforce
which will attract businesses that provide living wage jobs that will ultimately remediate poverty and
raise the standard of living for the City's residents; and
WHEREAS, the City has been awarded a grant in the amount of $40,000, to provide said
services; and
WHEREAS, the City must execute a contract with MDC to accept the appropriation;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The City Manager is authorized{1} to accept a grant, in the amount of $40,000, from
MDC, consisting of a grant awarded by Microsoft's Unlimited Potential -Community Technology Skills
Program, to provide services for Elevate Miami.
Section 3. The City Manager is further authorized{1 } to execute the Agreement for Services, in
substantially the attached form, and all necessary documents to implement the acceptance of said
grant award.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}
Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including, but not limited to, those prescribed by applicable City Charter
and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
