HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-09-0077Vop City of Miami F .. , 'Ir* Legislation i 0 R �O Resolution of Condolence: R-09-0077 File Number: 09-00076a City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 2/12/2009 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND SINCEREST CONDOLENCES ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF MIAMI AND ITS CITIZENS TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF RETIRED MIAMI OFFICER DARRYL SMITH UPON HIS UNTIMELY DEATH. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") grieves the untimely death of Darryl Smith, a decorated retired City of Miami police officer; and WHEREAS, Officer Darryl Smith, a popular officer with the Miami Police Department, was known as "Smitty" to his friends and colleagues; and WHEREAS, Officer Darryl Smith loved being a law enforcement officer and was an individual dedicated to helping others; and WHEREAS, as a 20 -year veteran of the Miami Police Department, he worked tirelessly to provide outstanding service as a Traffic Homicide Investigator to make our streets safer; and WHEREAS, Officer Darryl Smith displayed sensitivity and compassion through his plea for mercy, and changed the life of a young woman who had unfortunately devastated his; and WHEREAS, through his smile and pleasant disposition, Officer Darryl Smith inspired and served as an impressive example to others. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The authorities of the City of Miami, in the State of Florida, on behalf of our citizens, pause in our official deliberations to honor and express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends, and to record for posterity this fitting tribute to Miami Police Officer Darryl Smith (1951-2009). Section 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1 } MANUELA.
