The Equal Opportunity Advisory Board was created to review and recommend to the City Commission the
adoption of amendments/revisions to the City's affirmative action plan. The board also reviews employment
policies and practices of the City and makes recommendations to the Department of Employee Relations.
Five (5) appointments are required at this time:
• Chair Sanchez has two (2) nominations for seats currently held by:
1. Rebeca Alvarez -Mena, incumbent, whose term expired July 12, 2007, has
exceeded the number of allowed absences (8 absences in 2007), and would
require a 4/5ths waiver of attendance.*
2. Sam Mason, incumbent, whose term expired May 9, 2008, has exceeded the
number of allowed absences (5 absences in 2008); further, as he has served
since 2001 he would require a 5/5ths term waiver.
• Commissioner Gonzalez has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Vacancy (Miriam Urra reappointed on July 10, 2008).
• Commissioner Sarnoff has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Vacancy, due to the resignation of Yvonne McDonald.
• Commissioner Regalado has one (1) nomination for a seat currently held by:
1. Marlene Sanchez, incumbent, whose term expired May 9, 2008, has exceeded
the number of allowed absences (6 in 2008 and 4 in 2007) and would require a
4/5ths waiver of attendance.
For your convenience, we are including a copy of the current membership of said board. By copy
of this memorandum, we are requesting the Agenda Office to place this issue on the October 16,
2008 Commission agenda. *This matter was deferred from the June 14, 2007, September 11, 2007,
October 11, 2007, November 9, 2007, January 10, 2008, February 14, 2008, March 13, 2008,
April 10, 2008, July 10, 2008 and September 11, 2008 Commission meetings.
