HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-09-0017Vop City of Miami F .. , * Legislation i 0 R �O Resolution: R-09-0017 File Number: 08-01492a City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 1/15/2009 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO DELAY THE FEBRUARY CONVERSION OF TELEVISION ANALOG BROADCASTS TO DIGITAL BROADCASTS UNTIL FUNDING IS AVAILABLE TO ASSIST THE PUBLIC IN PURCHASING CONVERTER BOXES IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO WATCH LOCAL TELEVISION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, the conversion of television analog broadcasts to digital broadcasts is scheduled to take place in February, 2009; and WHEREAS, the United States Congress was offering forty dollar ($40) vouchers in order to assist the public in purchasing the necessary converter boxes; and WHEREAS, funding has been depleted and the majority of the public will not be able to receive vouchers and this causes a financial burden to many; and WHEREAS, President -Elect Barack Obama has urged Congress to delay the February conversion in order to seek more funding to assist the public; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges the United States Congress to delay the February conversion of television analog broadcasts to digital broadcasts until funding is available to assist the public in purchasing converter boxes in order to be able to watch local television. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the President and Vice President of the United States, to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the Majority Leader of the Senate, and to each Senator and Representative from Florida in the Congress of the United States Section 4 .This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{1 } City of Miand Page 1 of 2 File Id. 08-01492a (Version: 1) Printed On: 5/26/2017 File Number: 08-01492a Footnotes: Enactment Number: R-09-0017 {1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
