RESOLUTION CO -DESIGNATING SW 37TH AVENUE FROM
SW 8TH STREET TO SW 22ND STREET AS WILLIAM H.
KERDYK, SR. AVENUE; URGING THE CITY OF CORAL
GABLES AND THE CITY OF MIAMI TO JOIN IN SUCH
CODESIGNATION
WHEREAS, William H. Kerdyk, Sr. was born in Gloversville, New York, and as a child
moved to Coral Gables, where he would spend the rest of his life; and
WHEREAS, Kerdyk attended Coral Gables Elementary, Ponce de Leon High School
and graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Political Science; and
WHEREAS, in 1957 he married his wife Marlene and they had three children, William
Jr., Kim Renee and Tracy Lee; and
WHEREAS, in 1967 at age 39, Kerdyk was elected to the City of Coral Gables
Commission and for nearly three decades, he witnessed the growth of his beloved city as a
commissioner; and
WHEREAS, Kerdyk's tenure as city commissioner is the longest of any Coral Gables
commissioner; and
WHEREAS, over three decades as a city commissioner, Kerdyk sponsored many
ordinances that preserved and improved the quality of life for the residents of this community;
and
WHEREAS, Kerdyk received many honors including being selected as the recipient of
the E. Harris Drew award in 1987, which is an award is given by the Florida League of Cities to
recognize the Outstanding Municipal Official in the State of Florida; and

WHEREAS, Kerdyk was immersed in the community as a member of the Coral Gables
Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary and Elks Clubs, the South Florida Planning Advisory Board
and many others; and
WHEREAS, Kerdyk passed away on April 22, 2007; and
WHEREAS, this proposed co -designation is a county road located in County
Commission Districts 6 and 7,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, that this Board:
Section 1. Codesignates SW 37`h Avenue from SW 8t' Street to SW 22"d Street as
William H. Kerdyk, Sr. Avenue.
Section 2. Urges the City of Coral Gables and the City of Miami to join Miami -Dade
County in this co -designation.
Section 3. Directs the Clerk of the Board to send certified copies of this resolution to
the Mayor, Commissioners and City Manager of the City of Coral Gables; the Mayor,
Commissioners and City Manager of the City of Miami, the United States Postal Service, the
Traffic Signals and Signs Division of the Public Works Department, and Land Development
Division of the Public Works Department, the Miami -Dade Police Department, and the Miami -
Dade Fire Rescue Department.

The Co -Prime Sponsors of the foregoing resolution are Commissioner Carlos A.
Gimenez and Commissioner Rebeca Sosa. It was offered by Commissioner
Carlos A. Gimenez , who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Commissioner
Rebeca Sosa and upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows:
The Chairman thereupon declared the resolution duly passed and adopted this 20'' day of
November, 2008. This resolution shall become effective ten (10) days after the date of its
adoption unless vetoed by the Mayor, and if vetoed, shall become effective only upon an
override by this Board.
