HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-78-0453RESOLUTION N i 78-453 A RESOLUTION URGING THE DADE COUNTY COMMISSION TO PROVIDE FOR JOINT PRIVATE AND PUBLIC DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN RAPID TRANSIT STATION SITES AND STATION AREAS WHEREAS, Dade County is developing a 20.5 mile Rapid Transit System with 20 stations (10 in the City of Miami) at a cost exceeding $800 million dollars; and WHEREAS, a substantial benefit of and basis for the rapid transit system exists in the potential of attracting and concentrating new development around station areas; and WHEREAS, the policies expressed in the Miami Comprehen- sive Neighborhood Plan and by many local community organiza- tions strongly favors the development and redevelopment of certain station areas; and WHEREAS, the attractiveness of the transit system to future riders will in large part depend on the availability of essential retail services, employment centers, housing and institutional attractions in convenient proximity to transit stations; and WHEREAS, transit dependent persons will rely on the sub- stantial and orderly distribution of vital urban activities around transit stations as a means of improving their quality of life; and WHEREAS, the design of transit stations and station sites will greatly affect the success in achieving a strong relationship between the transit system and related urban development on and around station sites; "DOCUMENT INDEX 11 ITEM NO. Section 2. The City of Miami shall to the greatest possible extent cooperate with and urge a reciprocal cooper- ative posture from Dade County in the planning, programming, and funding of desired improvements necessary for transit station sites and area development.
