HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-78-0566RESOLUTION NO, 7 8` 5 6 6 A RESOLUTION CONDITIONALLY AUTHORIZING THE CLOSING OF CERTAIN STREETS FOR THE ONE -MILE TRIAL EVENT OF THE GREAT COCONUT GROVE BICYCLE RACE TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 5, AND 6, 1978, BETWEEN 10:00 A.M. AND 12:00 NOON, AND FOR THE GREAT COCONUT GROVE BICYCLE RACE TO BE HELD ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8, 1978 BETWEEN 8:00 A.M. AND 6:00 P.M, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY` The following streets are 12:00 NOON 'on Wednesday, Thursday and 6, 1978, for the holding of the GREAT COCONUT GROVE BICYCLE RACE: South Miami Avenue at and including its inter- section with 25th Road; northward to and includ- ing the intersection of 16th Road. Section 2. The following streets are hereby closed etween 8:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 8, 1978 the holding of the GREAT COCONUT GROVE BICYCLE RACE: Fuller Street; Grand Avenue from Fuller to Mary Street Mary Street from Grand Avenue to Bayshore; Bayshore Drive from Mary Street to McFarlane; McFarlane to Main Highway; and "DOCUMENT INDEX Main Highway to Fuller Street. ITEM NO. Section 3. The aforesaid closures are authorized issuance of permits by the Police and Fire Departments. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 14TH day of September, 1978. LPH G. June 27, 1973 011 Marager Joseiph Brassie SU'EcT i Great Coconut Grove Bidydle Made Sir: This is to formally advise you of the date of this years bicycle race in Coconut Grove, and to request your assistance in submitting this date(s) before the City Commission for formal approval. The date of the main event in Sunday, October 8, 1978. In addition, we intend to attempt to break the existing national record for the one -mile Time Trial event (which was set in 1914). This will occur between 10:00 A.I. and 12:00 noon on South Miami Avenue on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (Oct. 4,5,6) prior to the main event. We feel that this effort will: a) generate substantial media coverage, both local and and national, that will accrue well to the City of Miami, and Coconut Grovel b) generate much wider participation from nationally ranked top caliber riders. We have co-ordinated these dates and locations with Lieutenant Herb Altman of Point Control of the City of Miami Police Department. We also request the assistance of the City of Miami Surveyor - Public Works Dept. - to survey the one mile course for us.
