Festival Committee and other descenant., of the ethnic groups indicated below, representing hundreds of thousands of persons in the Greater Miami area, including Americans of all races and relig- ions, who support the Miami International folk Festival, do hereby request: 1. That the Miami City Commission be advised that, as has oc- cured in past years, the International Folk Festival ltrn- n 1978 not only did not exceed its appropriation, tut return- ed $1,862.00 of its $19,000 city appr...priation to the City's General Revenue Fund. Likewise, the Festival found it was not necessary to use the additional $2,500 which it thought might be required as a supplemental appropiation. 2. Due to inflation, all costs, and particularly those for food and lodging for visiting entertainers, have increased great- ly. In addition,,other local festivals are offering visiting •ca entertainers all vieals and lodging free, rather than. just a partial food allowance. 3. In an effort to expand and improve the International Folk Festival, we wish to present a free public folk concert at Gusman Hall during the: 1979 Folk Festival and to bring in additional foreign entertainers, particularly European groups. 4. The City of Miami International Folk Festival is the only such event produced by the City Conuaission through its appointed Folk Festival Committee and it had grown in its scope and success for the past 7 years. We feel it should received at least the same financial consideration, since it is for and by all nationality, racial and ethnic groups in our community, that the City grants to events sponsored by outside organi- zations. We ask that the City Commission approve our requested 1979 appropiation of $34,705, which is considerably less than the $39,625 which the Folk Festival Committee plans to generate ■ ■ barge===:x==-:. Petition to the dirt' Comr.ission 2 in revenue for our total 1919 budget of $04,330. Please note that except for the International Ball, all Folk Festival events are presented free to the public as a g city.
