PLANNING FACT SHEET
City of Miami Planning Department:
June 19, 1978.
4, APPROXIMATELY 701-775 SW 4th STREET
RIVERSIDE PARK (Tentative Plat 1025)
Request for permission to construct and
operate recreational facilities per
ARTICLE XVIII-I PUBLIC PARK AND RECREATIONAL
USE - PR DISTRICT, Section 4 (1-3) in
Riverside Park, and the adjacent right-
of-way of SW 7th Avenue.
(Riverside Park)
To provide for the re -development of Riverside
Park
Ada Merritt Junior High School, 660 SW 3rd
Street, is sited directly across SW 7th Ave.
from Riverside Park. This school is located
on a grossly undersized site (1 acre) with
almost no open space and no outside play area.
The school has historically used the City of
Miami's Riverside Park under a lease agreement,
which has expired. The surrounding area is
mainly composed of multifamily structures in
fair condition. Hope School which is directly
across SW 4th Street from Ada Merritt also uses
the park facilities.
To better serve the community the City► of Miami
plans to redevelop the park for both school
and non -school hour use.
This 3.5 acre facility will total 3.78 acres
including the adjacent right-of-way of SW 7th
Street. The school and park will be made contiguous
through pedestrian emphasis of the right-of-way
of SW 7th Street. Redevelopment of the existing
area includes an improved baseball field, basketball
courts,upgraded lighting, restrooms, a storage
facility building and a childrens' play area.
