Grassie City Manager John P Bond, 111 Assistant city Manager MArrf ( odtober 6, 1078 FILE: ILT Assistance for PAMU orange blossom Classid :N:r OVer the past several years, the City of Miami has allocated $2,000 - $2,500 for services in connection with the Orange blossom Classic Parade. This allocation was not covered by agreement and was not actually coordinated with Florida A & M University. because the University has been considering a termination of the Orange BlOssom Classic here in Miami due to mediocre turn- out, and because I feel that one of the reasons for the low turnout has been a lack of substantial promotion and publicity concerning this event, I think it would be in the best interest of the City of Miami to reestablish and increase its support of this event. 1978 is the final year of a two-year agreement between FAMU and the City of Miami to use the Orange Bowl for this event. I think that the City should attempt to keep the Orange Blossom Classic in the Orange Bowl and I feel that all City efforts to assist FAMU with the promotion of this event should be tied up in a $6,000 annual assistance package. FAMU will be responsible for the disbursement of these funds and will provide the City with a financial report of the Orange Blossom Classic. I will negotiate the details of an agreement with FAMU officials and will submit it for approval prior to this year's event (November 30 - December 2, 1978).
