Howard V. Gary, Director
Department of Management and Budget
At the September 27, 1978 public hearing on the proposed budget
for fiscal year 1978-79, the City Commission expressed a desire
to continue the funding of various social service programs that
were not recommended for Federal Revenue Sharing funding for fiscal
year 1978-79. The intention expressed by the Commission was to
grant these agencies a portion of their current FRS allocation
as a means to continue their programs at current levels until
alternative funding sources could be identified. To this end,
the City Commission granted a one month appropriation to these
programs to continue their operation from October 1, 1978 to
October 30, 1978.
Attached are two resolutions that will continue two of the afore-
mentioned social service programs during fiscal year 1978-79. The
first proposes to continue the Dade County After School Program
for another month beginning September 1, 1978, at a cost of $16,002.
The second proposes to fund the Dade County Community Schools
for the remaining eleven months of the fiscal year at a cost of
$64,166. The addition of $64,166 to the previous allocation of
$5,834 provides a total appropriation of $70,000 which is the
same amount granted to this program in FY '78.
