HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-79-0132TVP/S/3 2/12/79 RESOLUTION NO. 7 9- 1 3 2 A RESOLUTION CREATING AN ADVISORY COUNCIL ON ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR THE PURPOSE OF STUDYING THE CITY OF MIAMI'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EFFORTS AND RECOMMENDING STRATEGIES AND PLANS TO MAXIMIZE COORDINA- TION BETWEEN THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF TRADE AND COMMERCIAL CATALYSTS. WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Commission to foster economic development, promote trade and commerce activities and successfully project the new image of the City of Miami as a major financial and distribution center; and WHEREAS, the City Commission is desirous of seeking and involving the private sector in the economic development of the City of Miami, through the creation of an Advisory Council; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to have a charter, or written statement describing the structure, purpose and other require- ments of this Council; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City of Miami Advisory Council on Economic Development is hereby created. Section 2. The purpose of this Council is to study the economic development efforts of the City of Miami, to share with City officials the point of view of the private sector vis-a-vis these development efforts, to serve as a conduit between the City and the business sector and to recommend strategies and plans of action which would maxis►!}�g�t,t}��CNT E, impact of development efforts in the City. (M NU C'�Il G ITEM NO. Section 3. The Director of the Office of Trade & Commerce Development shall make available to the Council all economic development documents required by the Council. The Director of the Office of Trade & Commerce Development shall serve as the staff liaison to this Council, as well as lend all necessary staff assist- ance required. Section 5. The Council shall meet at least once a month, and minutes of these meetings, which shall be open to the public, shall be made available upon request. Section 6. Council membership shall be limited to individuals who either work or reside in the City of Miami. The City Commission shall appoint 15 members to the Council and shall designate the chairperson thereof. Section 7. The Council shall establish its own rules and procedures not inconsistent with Roberts Rules of Order. Section 8. The terms of all Council members shall be for 2 years, at which time they may be reinstated or replaced by the City Commission. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 26th day of February 1979. Maurice A.
