GNGIE CITY CLERK TO: 17 frek Joseph R. Grassie City Manager Gerardo Salman, A.I.A. Director, Building & Zoning Inspections Dept. DATC January 8, 1979 Ordinance Amending the Code of the City of Miami Recommended by the Parking Area Lighting Review Study Committee During August 1977 Mr. Herbert Lee Simon requested that the City Commission review the existing City of Miami Parking Area Lighting Ordinance 8115 As Amended. • As a result of this request, a Study Committee was formed to review the Lighting Ordinance and submit recommendations to the City Manager's office for consideration by the City of Miami Commission. The Parking Area Review Study Committee consisted of representatives from the City of Miami Police Department, Planning Department, Building Department, Florida Power & Light, together with three members from the private sector. Several meetings were held and the Ordinance was thoroughly reviewed with regard to the minimum light level requirements, method of securing parking areas that were not in use during the evening hours, and the enforcement activity carried out by personnel of. the Building Department. The Study Committee's major recommendation to the Commission is that the present Parking Lot Review Board be expanded from its present five (5) member panel to a seven (7) member panel consisting of four (4) appointed members from the private sector and three (3) from the various departments of the City of Miami. The accompanying memorandum submitted November 30, 1978 indicates the individuals nominated by the Study Committee for appointment by the City Manager to the new seven (7) member Parking Lot Review Board. It was also recommended by the Study Committee that the Parking Lot Review Board continually review the Parking Area Lighting Ordinance in order to submit future recommendations to the Commission if and when conditions exist that would require changes to the Ordinance.
