Recommendation for Resolution and
Acceptance of Proposal for Medical
Supplies
Purchasing Department Resolution
The Fire Department Rescue Service uses prepackaged medications in
'emergency syringes' and only one supplier produces these supplies
in individual 'soft plastic' packaging, with a guaranteed shelf life.
Other sources provide the supplies in bulk, which requires opening
and resealing for each usage. The Department's Medical Advisor and
the manufacturer have advised that this procedure jeopardizes the
sterility of the contents.
It is recommended that formal bid procedures be waived, and that the
proposal of International Medication Systems for furnishing prepackaged
medication in emergency syringes as required at an estimated total
cost of $8,000.00 be accepted.
The Department of Fire concurs with this recommendation.
