FOR FURNISHING SIX 3 WHEEL TRUCKSTERS Al A COST OF $14,970.00; FOR A TOTAL COST OF $85,257.00; ALLOCATING $53,248.00 FROM THE MOTOR POOL FUND, $23.489.50 FROM COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FUNDS, $4,259.75 FROM THE 1978-79 CAPITAL EQUIPMENT FUND OF THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES, AND $4,259.75 FROM THE 1978-79 CAPITAL EQUIPMENT FUND OF THE DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTERS AND COMMUNICATIONS; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND THE PURCHASING AGENT TO ISSUE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THIS EQUIPMENT. WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received January 9, 1979 for the furnishing of automobiles, motorcycles and other vehicles for the Department of Building and Vehicle Maintenance; and WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to 72 potential suppliers and 17 bids were received; and WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the Motor Pool Fund, Community Development Funds, and the 1978-79 Capital Equipment Funds of the Departments of Human Resources and Computers and Communications. WHEREAS, this equipment will be used by the Department of Building and Vehicle Maintenance for the purpose of replacing equipment which is beyond economical repair and provide necessary additional vehicles to City Departments; and WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Department of Building and Vehicle Maintenance recommend that the bids received from Northside Motors, Inc., Harley Davidson of Miami, and De Bra Turf and Equipment Co. he accepted as the most advantageous "DOCUMENT INDEX bids to the City; gAIN NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF �" FLORIDA: Section 1. It is recommended that the award be made and a resolution be passed accepting the most advantageous bids as received from the following companies for furnishing motor vehicles to the Department of Building and Vehicle Maintenance. ' me Department of Finance BID EVALUATION: 1. Automobiles Specifications were for standard models with standard equipment. Invitations were mailed to all dealers in Dade and Broward County who sell AMC, Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, Mercury, Plymouth, and Pontiac. Bids were received from Plymouth and AMC/Jeep dealers only. 2. Motorcycles Bids for police motorcycles were received from both Harley Davidson and Kawaski. The Kawasaki motorcycle for 1979 meets police specifications. The price of their electronic siren makes the total cost $59.80 more than the Harley Davidson. 3. 3 Wheel Trucksters Bids were received from Cushman and Quarter Horse dealers. Examples of their replies were as follows: 8 indicated they would not bid on governmental requirements due to the low profit margin. 4 indicated the individuals responsible for bidding were on vacation or no longer with the company. 6 reported they did not sell the type of equipment requested. 9 stated they did not think they received the invitation to bid. 6 gave various other reasons for not bidding. RECOMMENDATION: IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE AWARD BE MADE TO NORTHSIDE MOTORS, INC., HARLEY DAVIDSON OF MIAMI, AND DE BRA TURF AND EQUIPMENT CO. The Department of Building and Vehicle Maintenance concurs.
