DOA 402099 MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA 33140 The Honorable Maurice Ferre Mayor, City of Miami City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, Florida 33133 Dear Maurice: AREA COOS 30S MIAMI 532-4721 BROWARO 764-1,99 January 30, 1979 We have a special situation that develped at Douglas Gardens Miami Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged whereby we are obligated to pay real estate taxes for which we are normally exempt. We had a flood at the home that destroyed our records, and therefore we were not able to file for exemption from taxes until three days after the date expired for such filing. Con- sequently and technically we are obligated to pay the 1976 taxes. We thought we should first make some effort, through the Courts, but knew this might prove futile. It developed that our efforts were unsuccessful, so thereafter we turned to the County and asked them to award us a grant equal to their portion of the 1976 taxes. The County did, and I am enclosing a copy of the unanimous resolution to that effect. We are now going to seek similar relief from the City of Miami for that portion of the 1976 taxes which are allocated to the City, and then to the School Board. I am enclosing a breakdown of these taxes. I would like to discuss this matter with you, either in person or by telephone,so that I can go into any pertinent details and answer any questions you may have. We certainly would appreciate your help. Regards. IC:nbs Encl. cc: Mr. Fred Hirt Cordially yours, Irving Cypen MEMORANDUM ".C7- 17 A ;o FROM Vicki Jay Assistant County Attorney IN B. W.
