T Art H, Howard, Director. Department tf Leisure Service April 161 1979 Retelution and Ordinane The Handicapped Division of the Department of Leisure Services has been notified by the Department of Health„ Education and Welfare, Office of Education that effective June 1, 19794 this Department will receive funding for a three year project froth the Bureau of Education for the Handicapped (BEH). This is a continuation of a present one year project which ends May 31, 1979 and entitled Staff Training for Adapted Recreation (STAR). It is a categorical grant from the Division of Personnel Pre- paration of BEH. To our knowledge, the City of Miami is the only municipality in the country to receive a Personnel Pre- paration grant. The fact that we have been recommended to receive money which has 'historically been earmarked for uni- versities for pre -service training of professionals and, that we have and will continue to effectively conduct this BEH in- service training project, acknowledges the capabilities of the Handicapped Division of the Department of Leisure Services and reaffirms our leadership throughout the country. Indeed, we are extremely honored with the significance of this grant and the recognition that it will bring to the City of Miami. The cost of this project is $66,735.00, S40,500 to be funded by BEH and 526,235 by Federal Cash Match funds.
