ACTION OF THE CITY MANAGER IN SUBMITTING A GRANT-IN-AID APPLICATION TO TEIE UNITED STATES COMMERCE DEPARTMENT, RECOMMENDING DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION DATED JUNE 22ND, 1979 FOR CERTAIN PHYSICAL IMPROVE- MENTS IN THE LITTLE HAVANA AREA AND DECLARING THE CITY'S INTENTION TO PRO- VIDE THE NECESSARY MATCHING FUNDS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami is desirous of fostering. the development of the Little Havana area of Miami -as a Latin Quarter as a means of encouraging tourism and economic development; ; and WHEREAS, this Latin Quarter concepthas receive the support of community groups, including the .Little Havana Development Authority and Little Havana .Community Development Task Force; and WHEREAS, the"City Manager has submiated:arant-'in- aid - id application to• the United States Commerce Department Economic Development"Administration dated June;22,;1979 to provide street improvements, tree planting, decora- tive lighting and street Latin ,e in the. September 5,. 1979 3,7JECCity Commission Resolution Endorsing EDA Application for Local Latin Quarter Project XI L E: PEFERENCES: ENCLOSURES SUMMARY The Economic Development Administration has requested a City Commission resolution to specifically provide nec- essary matching funds for the Latin Quarter Project._, BACKGROUND On April l9th, the City Commission adopted a resolution supporting the concept of the establishment of a Latin Quarter in the City of Miami. Subsequently, on July 26th adopted Resolution 79-478 supporting the action of the City Manager in seeking funds from the Economic Development Ad- ministration for the Latin Quarter Project and agreeing to provide support for the project. In response to this resolution EDA has requested a specific committment from the City Commission regarding the two million dollars in matching funds that will be required for thisPro- ject. The match will be provided by City and County Community Development projects and City and County Public Works projects i.e., storm sewers and road improvements respectively. It is recommended that the City Commission enact the attached reso- lution regarding provision of the matching funds. Att achmen 79-628
