CITY OF MIAMI

Dear Mayor:
In our separate meetings with you, several of the
Commissioners and the City Manager, we have been impressed ra
by the pressures on the City of Miami to save money in all
areas. We would like to exhibit our willingness to help in
this area by modifying the Film Festival's request for
assistance from the City, bringing the total amount now
requested down to an amount ($48,400) which the City Manager
considers to be more reasonable.
The amount of money which we had requested from the
City this year was $84,400. We are reducing that amount by,
$36,000 -- eliminating requests for special security and
parking arrangements ($10,000) and advertising services
($25,000). Mr. Grassie indicated that coordination of our
advertising with City sponsored advertising programs could
continue but without commitment of any ad vertising'funds for
the Film Festival. The following is a summary of our reduced
request:
1. General Operating Funds:

With respect to the conditions that may be set on any
grant from the City, we would like to request one change
from the conditions set last year -- namely that, if approved,
disbursement of the $25,000 cash grant not be made subject

to.our first obtaining contributions of $100,000 or more
from private sources. We did raise over $120,000 from such
sources last year and we expect to do at least as well this
year, but the restriction on use of the City's funds until
the other money is raised is very difficult on us. We would
appreciate it if that condition could be omitted this year
in light of the obvious growing community support for this
activity and our demonstrated ability

raise private funds
last year.
We would like to express our thanks for the City's
support in the past and we hope our work continues to earn
support from the City in the future.
Thank you.
