Recommended Ordinance re Annual
Fire Safety Inspection and Fee
Schedule
Chief H. W. Brice, Director
Department of Fire
It is recommended that an annual Fire Safety Inspection
Program and fee schedule be established as per the at-
tached ordinance.
The City of Miami Fire Department as part of its continuing efforts in Fire Preven-
tion activities and achievement of the fire safety inspection goals as outlined in
the Miami Fire Protection, Rescue, and Emergency Services Master Plan 1977-1987,
is recommending expansion of the scope of its fire safety inspections.
The goal of an annual fire inspection of all commercial properties can be realized
by adoption of this proposed ordinance. This will provide the Fire Department with
the authority to inspect commercial properties on an annual basis and issue, for
a fee, a certificate of inspection.
The Program will be coordinated by the Fire Prevention Bureau utilizing manpower
resources of the bureau and the Firefighting Division. The proposed fee structure
will allow for reimbursement of approximately 17% of the total costs of the Fire
Department's inspection activities.
