A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE BID OF JONES EQUIPMENT CO. FOR
FURNISHING 159 SMITH & WESSON REVOLVERS FOR THE DEPARTMENT
OF POLICE: AT A TOTAL COST OF $18,682.50; ALLOCATING FUNDS
FROM THE 1978-79 OPERATING BUDGET: AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER AND THE PURCHASING AGENT TO ISSUE THE PURCHASE ORDERS
FOR THIS EQUIPMENT.
WHEREAS, pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received
August 21, 1979 for the furnishing of 159 Smith & Wesson Revolvers for
the Department of Police; and
WHEREAS, invitations were mailed to 14 Potential suppliers and 1
bid was received; and
WHEREAS, funds for this purchase are available in the 1978-79
Operating Budget; and
WHEREAS, this equipment will be used by the Department of Poli.ce
for the purpose of replacing damaged and obsolete weapons, and
WHEREAS, the City Manager and the Department of Police recommend
that the bid received from Jones Equipment Co. be accepted as the mos
advantageous bid to the C ty;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The August 21, 1979 bid of Jones Equipment Co. for furnishing
15Smith & Wesson Revolvers for the Department of Police; at a total cost
of9 $18 682 50 is hereby accepted with funds hereby 'allocated from the 1978-
79 Operating Budget.
Section 2. That the City Manager is hereby authorized to instruct the
Purchasing Agent to issue the Purchase °rder for this equipment..
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 27th day of September 1979.

RECOMMENDATION
The Bid of Jones Equipment Co. meets the specifications.
Ten of the potential bidders responded with "no bids".
It has been determined that Jones Equipment Co. is the
South Florida Distributor for Smith & Wesson guns, and
they receive a factory allocation for use by, governmental
agencies, which is not available to regular retail dealers.
IT. IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE AWARD BE, MADE TO JONES
EQUIPMENT. CO.
The Department of Police concurs.
