Resolution The Department of Public Works recommends that Dade County's proposed street lighting plan for S.W. 40th Street between U.S. #1, and S.W. 39th Avenue be accepted per the attached resolution. .-- Dade County proposes to install a new street lighting system for S.W. 40th Street (Bird Road) between U.S. #1 and S.W. 39th Avenue. This lighting project is to be built under the Dade County Decade of Progress Bond Program, and the County plans to do only the • street lighting installation, and does not, in the foreseeable future, plan to rebuild the roadway. The County is requesting that a resolution endorsing the project be passed by the City Commission so as to insure a continuing municipal involvement in the planning process and to demonstrate the municipality's con- sistent support of the project. S.W. 40th Street is classified by Dade County as an Arterial - Commercial roadway, and most of the frontage along its length in the city is commercial or industrial. The lighting is to be installed on the south side of the street as a one-sided lighting system, and will consist of 400-watt High Pressure Sodium Vapor luminaires on 40 ft. aluminum poles with an average 220 foot distance between lights. Underground wiring will be used. The average maintained footcandle reading is calculated to be 2.00 footcandles for the paved area, and this falls within acceptable lighting standards for this type roadway. This one- sided lighting was necessitated because of an existing wood pole overhead power line on the north side of the roadway. In order to demonstrate the City's acceptance of this proposed lighting project, it is now in order for the Commission to pass; the attached resolution. JHS:vh Resolution Attached 79-696
