I recommended that the City Commission
authorize the City. Manager to accept all
Urban Parks and Recreation Recovery
grants per the attached resolution.
FILE:
The Heritage Conservation and Recreation Service, U.S. Department of the
Interior is administering a five year program, the Urban Parks and Re-
creation Recovery Act.
"The Urban Park and Recreation Recovery Act was enacted in recognition of
the severe deficiences in urban recreation in the United States. It seeks to
restore facilities which have fallen into disuse or disrepair; to stimulate and
support local commitments to recreation system recovery and maintenance;
and to improve the management and delivery of recreation services to urban
residents. I1.,.
The City will be applying for approximately eight UPARR grants per year.
By enacting legislation to allow the City Manager to accept any of these grants
that are awarded, the process will be expedited. All appropriations of these
funds will be brought before the City Commission for approval.
