AT A TOTAL COST OF $1,132.894.88; ALLOCATING FUNDS FROM THE MOTOR POOL REPLACEMENT RESERVE FUND; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND THE PURCHASING AGENT TO ISSUE THE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR THIS EQUIPMENT. Automobiles, PickupTrucks, and Van type Vehicles: Specifications were for factory standard' models with standard. equipment. Invitations were mailed to all dealers in Dade and Broward, County who sell AMC, Chevrolet,.Dodge, Ford, Mercury, Plymouth, and Pontiac. 2 Motorcycles Bids for police motorcycles were received from Harley Davidson and Kawaski dealers. The bid from Harley Davidson of Miami is the lowest bid. All bids meet the specifications except as noted on the tabulation of bids. A representative group of the non -bidders were contacted by telephone to determine if they received the invitation to bid, and their reason for not bidding. Examples of their replies were as follows: 1. "Would not bid on governmental require- ments due to the low profit margin." 2. "Could not get manufacturers's price concessions." 3. "The individuals responsible for bidding were on vacation or no longer with the company. 4. "They did not sell the type of equipment. requested. Bid prices received by the City were compared with those received by Metropolitan Dade County and the State of Florida for 1980 vehicles. The prices bid to the City were comparable to or were below the county and state bids. For bidding purposes, the state was divided into western, northern, central, and southern districts, and on many of the items there were no bids from the southern district.
