Said'`systeIm shall , be installed b'I July 'l,` 1980 For the following reaso.ns',,.this Department .now recommends` that the "pump rig" system for, beer'._distribution not.be'installed at_the Orangc,Bowl: but, instead,' -that one freight elevator be installed on the.North side of the Stadium.an.d another be installed on the South side of the Stadium, and that these, in.conjunction with bulk cold storage areas'on alL levels; be utilized to distribute. beer on 'a "bottle -to -cup" basis'.., I. The "pumping" system was proposed by this Department more than a year ago when concession facili'ties,`for beer distribution on the upper -levels of;'the.'Orange Bowl were.. non-existent, and floor -load problems existed on those- .. levels for storage of inventory.-': The $500°,000 !now..'.being. experided on additional and improved concession. -facilities' on the upper levels now removes these former restrictions. 2. The freight elevator system provides far mor6- versatility than the pumping; system .inasmuch as the elevators can be used to carry all concession materials to the upper levels for stocking. This will save both. time and . wear -and -tear on the circular ramps. 3: The original $J30,000 cost of the beer Pumping system has now escalated to over $1120,000 as a result of inflation. Page 1 of •2 Joseph R: Grassie February 20-, 1980. 4. Contact by this Department with fourteen (14).other,., professional sports facilities around the country revealed a consensus of opinion that the pumping method was the least effective means of distribution of beer. 5. The addition of freight elevators and bulk cold storage areas in the Stadium will serve to increase concession revenues and will also provide the, type,of Orange Bowl improlements which are permanent-in"nature Land,.. at .-the same time, will fit into any Orange Bowl:Stadium renova- tions which are undertaken in.the future. The,. plans of. this Department.for installation=of the freight elevators and -bulk cold storage areas have been reviewed`by the Miami -Dolphins, Ltd and they have ;ind3cated',their agreement and approval of these plans: RLJ:,cb cc: Cesar Odin, -Assistant City Manager Walter Golby', Stadiums Manager Page 2 of I.
