Grassie City Manager r�Iq. �ar Direc or :...•, Department of Leisure Services April 22, 1980 Ordinance Restructuring the City of Miami's Boxing and Wrestling Board It is recommended that the City of Miami's Boxing and Wrestling Board be re-established with five (5) members appointed by the City Commission and authorized to establish governing rules and regulations and licensing fees, as per the attached ordinance. In 1957, the City of Miami established a Boxing and Wrestling Board to govern and license boxing and wrestling events. During recent years this Board has dissolved in that the great majority of such events were held outside the City of Miami. In that City facilities can now adequately compete in accommodating such events, it is evident that Miami's potential for the hosting of these event_ is steadily increasing, and therefore, the re- establishment of the Boxing and Wrestling Board is essential. It is, therefore, the recommendation of the Department of Leisure Services, that a Boxing and Wrestling Board be re-established and restructured as follows: 1. The Board shall consist of five (5) members and one (1) secretary - treasurer, appointed by the City Commission serving two (2) year terms. 2. The Board, in keeping with current rules, regulations, and fees established by other Boards of its kind, shall be authorized to establish and implement said rules and regulations and licensing fees for the City of Miami. 3. The City Commission shall appoint a Chairman to call and preside over meetings and shall appoint a successor should a member's seat become vacant. I � E • 2 Page 2 4. All members shall hold their position without compensation with the exception of the secretary -treasurer who shall be compensated in terms of a percentage of the licensing fees collected as approved by the Board. Odio Aj ::�•_ . , Assistant City Manager ' It is quite evident that professional boxing and wrestling will be in Miami on a regular basis in the not too distant future. Therefore, there is a need to reactivate the City of Miami Boxing and Wrestling Board. This Board, appointed by the City Commission is responsible for issuing licenses to promoters, fighters, managers, referees, announcers, etc., and collecting all applicable fees.
