MIAMI, FLORIDA 33101 • (AREA CODE 305) 350-2111 May 5, 1980 William Martin 1720 Wakeena Drive Coconut Grove, F1. 33133 Dear Bill: Thank you for meeting with us concerning the special section. As we discussed at this time there is no committment on either side to run the section, this information is to help test the water to see if there is any initial.advertising support. The table below shows the circulation and cost per column inch of a Thursday run date in July. Circulation Column Inch Rate The Daily Miami Herald (Dade) 343,000 $33.50 The Miami News (Full Circulation) As we discussed, there are 810 column inches in a twelve page tab. On special sections such as these, we require that 70 percent of the space be paid advertising. (567 inches paid or 8.7 tab pages). This advertising committment is lower than we discussed. The total cost of the Herald and News section is 18,994 (33.50 x 567 = 18,994.50 ). A full page in this section would 1 be $2,177.50 (65 x 33.50 = 2,177.50) and the center spread would be 4,522.50 (135 x 33.50 = 4,522.50). As we discussed The International Edition of the Herald would be additional above these costs. Again, there is no committment on either side for this section, but we look forward to exploring the possibilities. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. PANCOAST , A PARTNER IN PANCOAST ALBAISA ARCHITECTS OF COCONUT GROVE, IS AN OUT- SPOKEN PROPONENT OF REGIONAL ARCHITECTURE FOR SOUTH FLORIDA. THROUGH A WIDE VAI TY OF PROJECTS , BOTH FROM HIS OWN OFFICE AND IN JOINT VENTURE WITH OTHER ARCHITECTS , HE HAS ACHIEVED AN ARCHITECTURE OF DISTINCT PERSONALITY THROUGH THE USE OF FLOATING CANTILEVERS, OPEN SHADED SPACES, DEEPLY PROTECTED OPENINGS, LOCAL BUILDING MATERIALS , AND BOLD USE' OF TEXTURES AND COLOR. PROJECTS ON WHICH PANCOAST HAS WORKED HAVE BEET: RECOGNIZED BY TWELVE DESIGN AWARDS FROM LOCAL AND STATE COMPONENTS OF THE AIA, INCLUDING BUILDINGS AT MIAMI DADE COMMUNITY COLLEGE, THE LAW CENTER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA IN GAINESVILLE, RANSOM SCHOOL ACADEMIC COMPLEX AND THE CITY OF MIAMI POLICE HEADQUARTERS. AS A LECTURER ON FLORIDA'S ARCHITECTURAL EVOLUTION, PANCOAST HAS STRESSED LEARNING FROM THE SUCCESSES AND FAILURES OF HISTORIC STYLES, RATHER THAN IMITATING THEM. HE STATES THAT "ARCHITECTURE CAN AND SHOULD BE ROMANTIC, BUT NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF COMMON SENSE". CONSISTENTLY ACTIVE ON COMMUNITY GROWTH ISSUES, PANCOAST HAS WORKED IN MIAMI TO REDUCE THE INFLEXIBILITY OF ZONING, TO PROMOTE HIGH QUALITY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT, INCENTIVE ZONING, URBAN PARKS AND PUBLIC LANDSCAPING. IN ORDER TO UNITE THE DIVERSE CIVIC GROUPS OF COCONUT GROVE , HE ORIGINATED AND CHAIRED A ZONING ADVISORY COMMITTEE. 1735 NEWYORK AVE.N.W. WASH .
