Dear Ms. Bellamy:
To confirm our conversation of today, the Greater Miami Chamber
of Commerce and Downtown Businessmen's Association are most
concerned over the quality of life and the perception of crime
in the downtown business district.
It is our understanding that Police Chief Harmes is scheduled
to report to the commission a proposal to determine how the
police department can increase safety and reduce response time -
of calls for service. Additionally, it is anticipated that a
proposal for budget alternatives to increase manpower and re-
sources will be presented.
The G.M.C.C. and D.B.A. request the opportunity to make comments
on the presentation and our organization's perceptions of the
crime situation. Dr. William Stokes, Chairman of the Law
Enforcement and Criminal Justice Action Committee and of the
Law Enforcement Subcommittee of the New World Center Action
Committee will represent the Chamber. Mr. Emilio Calleja will
speak on behalf of the Downtown Businessmen's Association.
Thank you for your assistance.
the above is most appreciated.
