RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING $20,000 OF
SIXTH YEAR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
BLOCK GRANT FUNDS FROM OVERTOWN
HOUSING REVITALIZATION TO BLACK
ARCHIVES, HISTORY AND RESEARCH
FOUNDATION OF SOUTH FLORIDA, INC.
FOR THE PURPOSE OF SURVEYING AND
ASSESSING RECORDS RELATING TO BLACK
HISTORY IN THE OVERTOWN AREA FOR
THE PERIOD COMMENCING JULY 1, 1980,
AND ENDING JUNE 30, 1981; FURTHER
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ENTER INTO AGREEMENT WITH SAID AGENCY.
WHEREAS, Overtown is the cradle of political, educational,
and cultural activities of the black community in South Florida;
WHERAS, it is important to document this history;
WHEREAS, Black Archives, History and Research Foundation
of South Florida, Inc. has the expertise to carry out this task;
and
WHERAS, it will be necessary to transfer $20,000 from
Overtown Housing Revitalization to fund this important project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. $20,000 of sixth year Community Development
Block Grant funds from Culmer Housing revitalization be hereby
transferred to Black Archives History and Research Foundation
of South Florida, Inc. for the purpose of surveying and assessing
records relating to Black History in the Overtown area.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to enter
into agreement with said agency for implementation of the pro-
gram for the period commencing July 1, 1980, and ending June 30,

Acceptance of pocket item
The attached memorandum clearly states the intention of the
Director of Community Development to have the Black Archives funding
for 1980-81, discussed on the agenda for Thursday.
Somehow, the subject was not included in the preparation of
the agenda. I therefore intend to bring it up for consideration
so that we may meet the June 30,1980 deadline.
