Grassie City Manager OL. rtulins Purchasing Agent June 5, 1980 Recommendation for Resolution and Award of Bid: No. 79-80-73, Removal of Abandoned Vehicles Award of Bid, Resolution, Tabulation Pursuant to public notice, sealed bids were received May 20, 1980 for furnishing removal of abandoned vehicles for the Department of Solid Waste. Invitations were mailed to 21 potential suppliers and 8 bids were received as per the attached tabulation. The pick up of abandoned vehicles became the Citys' responsi- bility in December, 1979 when Dade Countv abdicated that re- sponsibility. The Department of Solid Waste estimates that 1200 vehicles per year must be removed, and to use the Police Department's towing service at $15.00 each, the annual cost would be $18,000.00. Bid invitations provided for the following options: 1. Remove the vehicles at no charge to the City. 2. Remove the vehicles and charge the City a fee for each. 3. Remove the vehicles and pay the City for each. It is recommended that the award be made and a resolution be passed accepting the most advantageous bid as received from Bermer International Corporation for furnishing removal of abandoned vehicles and payment to the City of $41.41 for each vehicle removed. It is estimated that the contract will produce revenue to the City in the amount of $50,000.00 annually. The Department of Solid Waste concures with this recommendation. Not interested. 2. Business is Towing & Wrecker service only. Based on the estimated quantity of 1,200 vehicles to be removed, the most advantageous bid will produce approximately $50,000.00 in revenue annually, as compared to the least advantageous bid which would cost the City approximately $15,600.00. RECOMMENDATION: IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE AWARD BE MADE TO BERMER INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION. The Department of Solid Waste concurs.
