HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-80-0462it e. and RESOLUTION NO 8 O- 4 6 2 A RESOLUTION AMENDING SECTION 1 OF RESOLUTION 80-3829 ADOPTED MAY 22, 1980, WHICH CLOSED CERTAIN STREETS IN COCONUT GROVE TO THROUGH TRAFFIC ON JUNE 7 AND 8, 1980, BETWEEN 9:00 A.M. AND 9:00 P.M., IN CONNECTION WITH THE FOURTH ANNUAL GOOMBAY FESTIVAL, TO PROVIDE FOR SAID FESTIVAL TO BE HELD ON AUGUST 9 AND 10, 1980. WHEREAS, the City Commission passed Resolution 80-382 on May 22, 1980; WHEREAS, the aforementioned resolution closed Grand Avenue from McDonald Street to Douglas Road to through traffic on June 7 and 8, 1980, between 9:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M., in connection with the Fourth Annual Goombay Festival, sponsored by the "Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival In the Grove, Inc.", and WHEREAS, the sponsors of the Goombay Festival elected to postpone the event in light of the recent civil disturbance; and WHEREAS, the sponsors have subsequently requested the Fourth Annual Goombay Festival to be rescheduled to August 9 and 10, 1980; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. Resolution 80-382, adopted May 22, 1980, which provided City assistance and the closing of certain streets in Coconut Grove in connection with the Fourth Annual Goombay Festival on June 7 and 8, 1980, is hereby amended by amending Sections 1 and 6 thereof to read as follows: "Section 1. In order to establish a temporary pedestrian mall, Grand UJ Avenue (between McDonald Street and i-- Douglas Road) is hereby closed to through traffic on August 9 and 10, ct 11� 1980, between 9:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M.; �;,� such closing of street being subject ,� to the issuance of permits by the L J Q Police and Fire Departments." On May 22, 1980 the City Commission unanimously passed Resolution 80-382, which authorized City assistance and the closing of Grand Avenue between McDonald Street and Douglas Road, in connection with the Fourth Annual Goombay Festival to be held on June 7 and 8, 1980. As a result of the recent civil disturbance, the Miami/Bahamas Goombay In the Grove, Inc. elected to postpone the event. Mr. William Stirrup, Chairperson of the sponsoring organization, has requested that the event be rescheduled for August 9 and 10, 1980. The attached resolution amends Resolution 80-382 by changing the dates of the Fourth Annual Goombay Festival from June 7 and 8, 1980 to August 9•and 10, 1980.
