Y sa FAIRCHILD TRC PICAL BOTANIC GAREN Exploring, Explaining and Conserving the World of Tropical Plants am writing to congratulate you on the success of the Morningside Park Palmetum for education, conservation, and aesthetic value. You have organized a great coalition of partners and volunteers from throughout South Florida to build one of our region's best palm collections. It has been very impressive to see the Palmetum develop in recent years, and I am proud that Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden has been part of the team. Palms are among the world's most valuable plants, supporting the livelihood of people throughout the world. They are icons of the tropics and have strong cultural significance within our local community. Of more than 2,000 palm species worldwide, you have selected over 90 that represent South Florida, the broader Caribbean, and all other palm growing regions including Madagascar and New Caledonia. All major groups of palms are represented, including those that provide food, medicine, and shelter. Through careful curation, you have ensured that the palms are accurately meat b.Yseelng the §ht the W rover ■f r Thn*nax radioto Florida Thatch Palm Origin: Caribbean: Central America Planted: July 10, 2021 A salt tolerant, wind resistant Florida native, this palm grows slowly, slender and tag_ Its year-round white fruit feeds wildlife.
