HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-80-0616or �- �-3 �- RESOLUTION NO. 0 cols A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT AND ADMINISTER A GRANT AWARD FROM THE U.S. CUBAN-HAITIAN TASK FORCE IN THE AMOUNT OF $969,778 FOR CONDUCTING A PROGRAM ENTITLED: "LATIN RIVERFRONT EMERGENCY SHELTER", USING THE AFORESAID GRANT MONIES THEREFOR. WHEREAS, the City of Miami has been providing emergency food and shelter for approximately 800 refugees at the Orange Bowl; and WHEREAS, due to previous commitments, the Orange Bowl will no longer be available as of July 28, 1980; and WHEREAS, the use of the Orange Bowl for other purposes will create an emergency situation, due to the number of indigent refugees who will then be without food and shelter; and WHEREAS, the City Manager has engaged in discussions with the Federal Government's Cuban -Haitian Task Force to implement a program to provide emergency shelter, food and other services to indigent refugees; and WHEREAS, the Federal Government has responded to these discussions by considering the award of a grant to the City of Miami in the amount of $969,778 to provide approximately 800 refugees with food, shelter and services for a period of 6 months; and WHEREAS, the City Commission agrees that this program is the type of emergency municipal service which the City of Miami should provide; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept and administer a grant award from the United States Cuban -Haitian Task Force in the amount of $969,778 to conduct and implement the Latin Riverfront Emergency Shelter Program, using the aforesaid grant monies therefor.
