"It is recommended that the attached
Resolution be adopted by the City
Commission, authorizing you to accept
the Offer of Grant from the Economic
Development Administration of $1 million
for the conduct of a Summer Initiative
Program"
The U. S. Economic Development Administration, under its Public
Works Impact Program, has allocated $15 million nationwide to
labor intensive, short term summer projects. The City of Miami
has been offered the first $1 million out of this program.
It entails hiring 464 unemployed individuals, for a period of
two months, to work under City supervision in 9 separate projects.
A list of those 9 projects is attached for your review. Through
this program the City will be able to carry out improvements along
the target areas of Wynwood, Model Cities, Downtown and Overtown,
including the construction of three City parks. We will use the
value of the two lots where Fort Dallas Park will be constructed,
as the required $250,000 in -kind match.
