A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ALLOCATE UP TO $5,500 FROM THE "QUALITY OF
LIFE - SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACCOUNTS FUND"
TO SPONSOR THE AWARDS BANQUET OF THE LEE EVANS
MEMORIAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT OF THE AMERICAS,
TO BE HELD AT THE DUPONT PLAZA HOTEL ON AUGUST 9,
1980.
WHEREAS, the Lee Evans Memorial Bowling Tournament of the
Americas attracts outstanding amateur bowlers from more than
twenty countries of the western hemisphere and generates pub-
licity for the Miami area locally, nationally and throughout
the Americas; and
WHEREAS, the tournament was founded in 1963 by the late
Lee Evans, Assistant Director of the Miami -Metro Department
of Tourist Promotion, who traveled throughout the hemisphere
seeking participation in the event as a means of promoting the
City of Miami on a person -to -person level; and
WHEREAS, the tournament is now conducted by a separate
entity funded with approximately $32,000 from the Dade County
tourist tax; and
WHI.REAS, no tourist tax monies can be authorized for lodging
or for banquet expenses; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami has been requested to sponsor
the Tournament's Awards Banquet at the Dupont Plaza Hotel on
August 4, 1980, with the banquet attracting some 425 bowlers,
foreign guests and government officials, at an approximate cost
of $5,500;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to
allocate up to $5,500 from the "Quality of Life - Special Programs
