HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-80-0746RESOLUTION NO. 80-746 A RESOLUTION OF INTENT AND POLICY TO INSURE GREATER PARTICIPATION OF BLACK DEVELOPERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT, OWNERSHIP, AND MANAGEMENT OF GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZED HOUSING IN THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA. WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the decline in J the number of Black -owned enterprises in the City of Miami in the past decade; and WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes the need for additional housing for low-income, elderly, and minority families and individuals in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the City Commission desires that greater parti- cipation of Black developers in developing, owning, and manag- ing government subsidized housing be insured through all recom- mendations made by City of. Miami departments, agencies, and authorities to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Develop- ment for the development, ownership, management of govern- ment subsidized housing in the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes that formal action is imperative to attain the well being of citizens of the City of Miami; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CI`i'Y OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. It is the intent and policy of the City Com- mission to support the development of government subsidized housing in the City of Miami and to increase the participation of Black developers and Black -owned development companies in the development,ownership and management of all government subsidized housing built in the City of Miami. Section 2. All City of Miami departments, agencies, and authorities making recommendations and evaluations on proposals for the development of public housing will give special consider- ation to Black developers in reviewing, evaluating and recommend- ing public housing development proposals. As you are aware, Black developers on an average do not presatAly have adequate participation in the area as mentioned above, and it is the feeling of the Miami -Dade Chamber that we should begin to expand those opportunities for Black developers.
