Appointments to the Advisory
Council on Economic Development
The attached letter from Mr. Juan del Cerro, Chairman of the Advisory
Council on Economic Development, indicates that there are currently
seven vacancies on the Advisory Council on Economic Develop rent. Phis
Council was created on February 26, 1979 for the purpose of studying
the economic development efforts of the City of t'iami, to share with
City officials the point of view of the private sector vis-a-vis these
development efforts, to serve as a conduit between the City and the
business sector and to recommend strategies and plans of action which
would maximize the impact of development efforts in the City.
Appointments to this Council have been representatives of the following
_ areas of the private sector; Academia, Airlines, Banking and Finance,
Economic Development, Industrial and Manufacturing, Media, Professional
Services, Real Estate, Retail and Utilities. The present vacancies
leave a void in the areas of Airlines, Vedia and Professional Services
so you may want to i,iake appointments of persons in these areas.
Appointments to this Council will be scheduled for the October 30, 1980
City Commission meeting. Please have your nominees fill out the Resume
and Personal Information Forms and send the information to Angela
Bellamy of my staff by Friday, October 17, 1980.

1,
Dear Sirs:
Since being entrusted with chairing the City's Advisory -
Council on Trade and Commerce Development, the Council has
worked side -by -side with the City's Department of Trade &
Co,-nmerce Developn-,ent's staff and has been instrumental. in
assisting you and the staff develop and s1hape many ir.•tportant
_ economic development policies for our area.
Unfortunately, not all of the 15 oricinally appointed members
have been able to lend this advisory process the time that it
requires. P:e presently have 8 active mc3:-.!)ers in the Council,
the rest have resigned or have nc,:er attended any meetings.
Because of the import -,rice of this process and in lieu of the
tasks before us, I would like to request that you appoint, as
-- --- - soon as possible, 7 new me.;.bcrs to the Council, to bring it to
full strength again.
I urge you, in ma};ing your selections, that you consider persons
_ who can lend this Council the time and energy it deserves. Many
times we think of persons who are very involved in our community,
not realizing that precisely that J,,uch involvement robs them
time from further participation in yet ano°her co-:mittee.
