A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ACCEPT A GRANT AWARD OF $315,054 FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES POR A PROGRAM ENTITLED: "ENTRANT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM= LITTLE HAVANA", AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY CONTRACT(S) AND/OR AGREEMENT(S) TO IMPLEMENT THIS PROGRAM INCLUDING A CONTRACT W TH ACTION COMMUNITY CENTER, INC., FOR TRANSPORTATION SERVICES. WHEREAS, the Ci ty Manager appl i ed for a grant from the State of Florida: Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services to provide information and referral, job development, and transportation services to entrants; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida, on behalf of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, has offered the City of Miami a grant award of $315,054 in federal funds under the authority Title V, Public Law 96-422, The Refugee Education Assistance Act of 1980, to provide said services; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI , FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept a grant award of S315 ,054 from the State of Florida: Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services for a program entitled: "Entrant Assistance Program - Little Havana". Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the necessary contract(s) and/or agreement(s) to implement this program including a contract with Action Community Center, Inc. for transportation services. F,'P E`i'.:: f..5 It is recommended that the City Commission approve a resolution authorizing the City Manager to accept a grant award of $315,054 from the State of Florida for an entrant assistance program and to execute the necessary contracts and agreements and to implement the program. The City of Miami submitted an application to the State of Florida for funding an entrant information and referral, transportation, and job development program to ameliorate the problems resulting from the influx of such entrants. The primary purpose of this program is to help the entrants to achieve an acceptable level of self-support and/or self- sufficiency. The breakdown of the $315,054 is as follows: . Information, Referral, and Job Development $227,381 .
