In view of the imminent Federal cutbacks and the difficulty of maintaining the current levels of services because of inflation, the enactment of a State wide sales tax could be beneficial to the City of Miami. To carry out this resolution, we would ask our Tallahassee representative, Rick Sisser, to work closely with the Dade Delegation and other legislators to insure that a sales tax, if enacted, would be responsive to the needs of the City of Miami and fairly allocated based on our needs. Enactment of the sales tax should not preclude City support of other efforts by the State Legislature to take up the slack resulting from Federal funding cut backs. For example, additional State funding should be sought for youth employment programs, economic development and the provision of a wide range of human services.
