C.olimlission Discussion
of Silnon Bolivar Statue
The Government of Venezuela has donated to the City of Miami a
bronze statue of Simon Bolivar, the Liberator of Latin .America.
Due to the importance of Simon Bolivar to Latin America, the
Venezuelan Consul General, I -Ion. Enrique Aranguren has requested
that a site be developed adjacent to the 'Porch of Friendship. Because
the 1vlinister of the Interior and other senior Venezuelan Officials
will come to N•liariii for a June 24th dedication, the Parks Department
is planning to put up the statue and surround it with a small paved
area suitable for the dedication. Should the Venezuelan Government
decide to enlarge the plaza and acid amenities at a later date, the
Consul General has agreed in principal to fund this additional work
following site plans agreed upon by the City.
The Parks Department concurs with and recornmends the above,
however, due to the central location and importance of the proposed
monument, a brief presentation and discussion is requested with
the City Commission for the. June kith Committee: of the Thole
Agenda,
