HomeMy WebLinkAboutItem #60A - First Reading Ordinancet It f' ORDINANCE NO o AN ORDINANCE tSTA81,I8HING AN INTtRIM 20NINO D18TRICT TO BE XNOWN AS HLRITAGE CONSERVATION INTERIM ZONING DISTRICT, AS PROVIDED IN ARTICLE IV, GBNERAL PROVI- SIONS, SECTION 39, OF ORDINANCE NO, 6871 THE CONjpRtjjtNSIVE ZONING ORDINANCE FOR Tilt CITY OF MIAMI REQUIRING A PUBLIC HEARING AND APPROVAL BY THE CITY COM- M188ION PRIOR TO DMOLITION OF , ANY HIS- TORIC STRUCTURE IN THESE DISTRICTS AND REQUIRING DESIGN APPROVAL 13Y THE URBAN DEVELOP\jjENT REVIEWBOARD PRIOR TO ANY ALTERATION OR NEW CONSTRUCTION 'AFFECT- ING THE EXTERIOR APPEARANCE OF STRUC- TURES AND FEATURES IN THESE DISTRICTS; AND BY REPEALING ALL LAYS IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; 'AND .CONTAINING A' SEVERABILITY CLAUSE, WEEREAS, the Miami City Commission finds that in order to protect the educational, cultural, economic, and general welfare of the public and promote a -sense of identity, stability, and civic pride amongst Cite residents, it is necessary to recognize and conserve significant ele- ments of Miami's cultural, social, political, economic, architectural, and archeological heritage; and WHEREAS, pursuant to recommendations -of the Miami Com- prehensive Neig borho Plan and to Motion 79-326 of the • Miami City Cossio `the 1 g Department is currently preparing an h st f c prese Ution rogram including docu- 11 mentation and ev uatio of istori`c sites, plans and in- centives for cons rvation7 f historic sites, methods and mat p materials for �ublic 111-je ion and appreciation,, and an ordinance to create h r ge conservation zoning districts; and WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission finds the need to create a mechanism for monitoring changes in historic pro- perties during the interim time period required for imple- mentation of the comprehensive' heritageconservation pro- gram, plans, and zonin; ordinance in order to promote proper mlintenance and restoration' and to prevent unnecessary damage or destruction to those historic properties; and WHEREAS, the proposed I Interim Zoning 1)istriot regulationf � GITY C�?MMl���O�y_ ' vide such a mechanism for MEETING O properties; and MAY2 8 19g1 Ak�tt�9hCk NQ F
