ONGIE Owe °sang CITY CLERK MIAMI, FLORIDA f Q Publication of this Notice on the 2 day of June, 1901, 6' M81=0602t 7 to Howard V . Gary City Manager oa,E May 21, 1581 NLE suglE-' Ordinance Amending Annual Appropriations Ordinance for the Little Havana Community Center ena illm n Director FROM p REFERENCES Commission Agenda; Department of Community Development May 28, 1981 ENCLOSURES L It is recommended that the City Commission amend -tt Ordinance 9179, the Annual Appropriations Ordinance, as amended, to increase the appropriations of the Department of Community Development by $59,657 to cover the cost of operating the Little Havana Com- munity Center and to cover the cost of custodial services for that facility for the remainder of FY'80-81, utilizing $59,637 the City received from the State of Florida under the.Fascell/Stone Act '= as reimbursement for expenses incurred by the Little Havana Community Center in serving refugees, per the attached amended appropriations ordinance. The Little Havana Community Center, being a multi -purpose neighborhood service center, has always operated to meet the needs of the community it serves. In doing so, the Center has remained open to the community evenings and weekends for neighborhood and civic meetings as well as cultural events. Since April 1980, the Center has assumed the additional responsibility of -serving the new refugee population. As a result of the increased population, the cost of operating and maintaining the Center has increased. Further im- pacting the Center's budget is the upcoming termination of all CETA employees in June. These employees have provided services ranging from clerical to cus- todial/maintenance. We- recently had to close the Center at 5:00 p.m, on Tues- days and Thursdays due to the loss of many CETA employees and insufficient per- manent staff. In February 1981, we were advised of the availability of funds under the Fascell/ Stone Act to reimburse municipalities for expenses incurred in serving the refugees; a request for reimbursement was submitted to the State of Florida for expenses incurred by the Little Havana Community Center. In April 1981, we received $59,637 in response to our reimbursement request. It is requested that this $59,637 be appropriated to cover the increased cost of operating the Center for the remainder of the. fiscal year and to provide cus- todial services for the Center for the remainder of the fiscal year. 9276 - R'TMNC''µa.'^+•51? q,rw ,fir.;--, r ,.,Mx ..- - - } Howard V.
