A RESOLUTION ALLOCATING S120,000 FROM THE SECRETARY'S DISCRETIONARY FUND OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOP- MENT TO THE LITTLE HAVANA ACTIVITIES AND NUTRITION CENTERS OF DADE COUNTY, INC. FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A HOUSING ASSISTANCE PROJECT FOR CUBAN AND HAITIAN REFUGEES FOR THE PERIOD COMMENCING JUNE 1, 1981, AND ENDING MARCH 31, 1982; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER, INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH SAID AGENCY FOR THIS PURPOSE. WHEREAS, the City of Miami submitted a S3,900,000 application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for assistance from the Secretary's Discretionary Fund; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded the City of Miami S1,010,000 of such application; and WHEREAS, the City Commission adopted Resolution No. E1-170 on March 17, 1981, authorizing the City Manager to accept and execute the necessary implementing contract and agreements for said Grant; and PHEREAS, the City of Miami desires to allocate S120,000 from said Grant funds for the implementation of a Housing Assistance Project for Cuban and Haitian refugees; NOU, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. S120,000 from the Secretary's Discretionary Fund of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is hereby allocat- ed to the Little Havana Activities and Nutrition Centers of Dade County, Inc. for the implementation of a Housing Assistance Project for Cuban and Haitian refugees; Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to enter into an agreement with said Agency for the aforementioned project for the period commencing June 1, 1981, and ending March 31, 1982. The City has received a Secretary's Discretionary grant from the U.S. Depart- ment of Housing and Urban Development in the amount of 51,010,000 to alleviate the conditions resulting from the larne influx.of Cuban and Haitian refugees to this City. Toward this end, the Little Havana Activities and Nutrition Centers of Dade County, Inc., has been impler;enting a housinn assistance pro- ject for refugees with 6h Year Community Development funds in the arlount of S93,700. Since additional funds are available for this express purpose, it is recommended that the refugee housing assistance project be consolidated under the Discretionary Grant by terminating the existing 6th Year ComMInity Development contract with the agency on hay 31, 1981 and Bevelopinq a new Discretionary Grant contract in the amount of S120,000 beginning on June 1, 1981 and ending March 31, 1932.
