survey
The .vas designed to provide a reliable estimate of the averac1e

►; ,
has not released final ce►sus results for the City of ,,:,mi concerning
persons per household. However. in a letter to laycr Ferro• Daniel S.

4. SAMPLE DESCRIPTION'
The total numbe
r of households interviewed was 1,518. individual housing
units (single family mouses. apartments, and condominiums) interviewed
totaled 1500. The re+,raining 1 households were included to reflect house!
keeping units in hotels or motels.
4.1 Sar.,ple units ;)er tract:
The 1500 households were selected on a random basis. Estimates
were derived of the number of housing units by 1970 census tracts.
A listing of tracts and housing !snits in tracts was made and tine
too
number of units to be included in the sample for eacn tract was
calculated by computer analysis.
4.2 Selection of sample housing units:
The next step was the selection of streets and housing units.
Streets and address ranges inithin each tract were listed and weights=
assigned based on the estimated number of addresses. Streets were
then selected at random. The number selected was based on the number
of saiiipl e units required for each tract as descri :red in 4.1.

From this information , i t was concluded that 16 : of the estirrrated
10,000 hotel units, or 1600 hotel units are occupied on year-round
basis and could re considered as households. The total of i500
households inccuded in the survey represents 1.1 ,percent or' ail of
the households in the city. Therefore, an adjustment ;ras made to
include 1.1 Qercent of the 1609 motel units, or 11 units. The ad-
