May 20, 1981, Item Jf3,
following an advertised hearing,
adopted Resolution No. PAB 29-81 by a 6 to 0 vote (2 members
absent) RECOMMENDING permission to construct and operate
Recreational Facilities in Fort Dallas Park, as hereinafter
set forth; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission deems it advisable and in the
best interest of the general welfare of the City of Miami and
its inhabitants to recommend said construction and operation of
Recreational Facilities in Fort Dallas Park;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The construction and operation of Recreational
Facilities in Fort Dallas Park, being approximately 48-64 S.E.
4th Street, described as Lots 17, 18, and 19 less right-of-way
FORT DALLAS PARK AMD. (1-26) (4-85), per ARTICLE XVIII-I PUBLIC
PARK AND RECREATIONAL USE PR DISTRICT, Section 4(1-3); zoned
PR (Public Park and Recreational Use), per plan on file, as in-
corporated herein by reference, dated March 1981 and superseding
previous approval granted by Resolution 79-559, July 24, 1979,
be and the same is hereby approved.

The Fort Dallas Park site fronts on the
Miami River, immediately west of Bauder
Fashion College (former YC.'CA Building).
Lands to the west and north, across SE

4th Street are used for surface parking.

Fort Dallas Park was recommended in the

Parks for People bond issue of 1972; the
half acre site was subsequently acquired
for $453,000 with Parks for People bond
funds.

The original plans for Fort Dallas Park
complete with the proposed location of
the Flagler (Butler) Building were recom-
mended for approval by the Planning Ad
Viso Board June 20, 1979, and approved
by the City Commission on July 24, 1979.
The revised plans which include the new re-
located Flagler Building are for a more
urban nark than that previously presented.
The Flagler Building which will undergo in-
terior renovations and become a restaurant
is supported to the south by a dining
terrace, and to the east by a plaza which
opens onto an intermediate and lower level.
These plazas complete with benches, seating
walls, lighting, etc, and the lawn areas
will be heavily landscaped.
