RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
ACCEPT A GRANT AWARD FROM THE U. S. DEPART-
MENT OF EDUCATION FOR STAFF TRAINING FOR ADAPT-
ED RECREATION (4711 YEAR) AND FURTHER AUTHORIZ-
ING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY
CONTRACTS) AND/OR AGREEMENT(S) TO IMPLEMENT
THIS PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the City Manager or his representative has applied for a grant
from the U. S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education for Staff
Training for Adapted Recreation (4th Year); and
WHEREAS, this program will expand or improve the delivery of municipal
services to handicapped residents of the City of -Miami; and
WHEREAS, sufficient City of Miami funds have been identified to meet any
requirements for match purposes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Manager is hereby authorized to accept a grant award
from the U. S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education for Staff
Training for Adapted Recreation (4th Year).
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute the neces-
sary contract(s) and/or agreement(s) to implement this program.

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE CITY MANAGER BE
AUTHORIZED TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM THE U.S.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR STAFF TRAINING
FOR ADAPTED RECREATION (4TH. YEAR) AND
FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
{ EXECUTE THE NECESSARY CONTRACT(S) AND/OR
AGREEMENT(S) TO IMPLEMENT THIS PROGRAM.
project S.T.A.R. is funded by the U.S. Department of Education,
Office of Special Education in the amount of $40,500. In ad-
dition, the City of Miami provides a cash match of $34,000. for
a total of $74,500. The intent of this project is to develop
and implement a Full Spectrum Participation training model that
will enable recreation to become a part of the life experience
of disabled citizens. This goal will be accomplished by train-
ing general recreation staff in techniques and skills that will
better enable them to provide recreational services to the dis-
abled citizens utilizing city recreation facilities.
This is the fourth (4th.) year contribution of a four (4) year
grant, which has received funding approval for Fiscal Year 1981-
82.
It is the recommendation of this Department that the attached
resolution be adopted.
