A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF GROVE HOUSE, INC.
IN ITS EFFORT TO REMAIN IN COCONUT GROVE IN ITS
PRESENT LOCATION BY URGING THE SECRETARY OF
THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO PERMIT GROVE HOUSE
AND THE COCONUT GROVE COMMUNITY TO RAISE THE
FUNDS NEEDED TO SUPPLEMENT STATE -APPROPRIATED
FUNDS FOR THE PURPOSE OF MAKING NECESSARY
ROOFING AND STRUCTURAL REPAIRS TO GROVE HOUSE
SCHOOL BUILDING; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY
CLERK TO FORWARD A COPY OF THE HEREIN RESOLUTION
TO THE HONORABLE GEORGE FIRESTONE, SECRETARY
OF STATE.
WHEREAS, Grove House, Inc. is a school and a nonprofit
artists cooperative and has existed in Coconut Grove for 20
years; and
WHEREAS, Grove House is an institution unique in the State
of Florida in its service to the community as both a school of
arts and crafts and as a showcase for emerging Florida artists;
and
WHEREAS, Grove House is a part of the character, flavor,
and ambience of Coconut Grove and the loss of Grove House to
the Coconut Grove community would be injurious and detrimental
to the community; and
WHEREAS, the State of Florida appropriated funds to make
required repairs to the roof and structure of the building which
houses Grove House so that it can remain occupiable, which funds
are now insufficient for that purpose;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. George Firestone, the Secretary of State of the
State of Florida, is hereby urged to support Grove House, Inc.
in its effort to remain in Coconut Grove in its present location
by permitting Grove House and the Coconut Grove. Community to
raise the funds needed to supplement State -appropriated funds
for the purpose of making necessary roofing and structural
repairs to the Grove House School Building.

At the July 9, 1981 City Commission meeting Mayor Ferre requested
that a resolution of support for Grove House to remain in Coconut
Grove at its present location be prepared for City Commission
consideration on the July 23 Agenda. Subject resolution is
attached.
