Increase in Jitney fate Requested Ordinance CL..,1: $1 :> Attached find a proposed amendatory ordinance increasing the jitney fare pursuant to City Code Sections 56-44 and 56-55. Your attention is directed to the attached memorandum from Chief Harms dated June 5, 1981 which raises, among other points, the following: "If the requested fare increase is to cover the additional cost of gas and maintenance, and if so, will the additional revenue go to those individuals responsible for covering the costs? Currently, the leasees are responsible for the cost of gas and oil." GFK/RFC/rr cc: Kenneth I. Harms Chief of Police Our Taxi Detail would have no objections to the fare increase being requested by Mr. Evans and Mr. Stafford of the Liberty City Jitney Service; however, the following points should be addressed: 1. Profitability with the existing fare structure. 2. If the requested fare increase is to cover the additional cost of gas and maintenance, and if so, will the additional revenue go to those individuals responsible for covering these costs? Currently, the leasees are responsible for the cost of gas and oil. Members of our Taxi Detail have also revealed to me that several of the jitneys now in service, have reached a condition which practically renders them unsuitable for public service. Asaforementioned, additional information must be provided before any rate increase can be considered. f 1tv 8P MIAM111 — IIII ►rNl l V`I EW snxe ,..,,, r DAN 66UNIM PLOllDAam— ' d r ,a . f CO FLOC MAL 1116T16t .
